<h2>About the Position</h2>
<p>Hydrographers are responsible for establishing and maintaining automated equipment designed to measure the quantity and quality of water in rivers, lakes, storm water and sewerage. Hydrographers are also required to collect field data, which is then used to qualify monitored data. This role may include both above and below ground work.</p>
<p>The primary objectives of the role include:</p>
<ul>
<li>Data collection and field runs</li>
<li>Equipment maintenance and calibrations</li>
<li>Hydrographic site surveys</li>
<li>Hydrographic site installations</li>
<li>Data management using HYDSTRA</li>
<li>Data Management System.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Description of the ideal candidate</h2>
<p>We are seeking a motivated professional with a hydrographic background to join our highly experienced team. It is envisaged that this person will be a self-starter who can hit the ground running and who will actively seek to further their knowledge. We wish to fill this roll as soon as possible, the position may be filled before the close date.</p>
<ul>
<li>A certificate IV in hydrography or other tertiary qualification (or the ability to achieve this qualification within negotiated time frame)</li>
<li>Current manual driver licence</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience in various aspects of Hydrographics, including below ground work</li>
<li>Ability to supervise staff</li>
<li>Off-road driving experience</li>
<li>Ability to work in and cope with a variety of environmental conditions including confined spaces</li>
<li>Ability to swim</li>
</ul>
<p>Salary: $45,000 &#8211; $67,000 (dependent on experience)<br />
Location: Based in Scoresby (VIC) &#8212; Melbourne eastern suburbs.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Water has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Hydrographer for the Pilbara region of Western Australia. We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic, self-motivated and highly organised and ready to tackle the many challenges that the remote and challenging Pilbara environment has to offer.</p>
<p>The position of Senior Natural Resource Management Officer – Hydrography – focuses on hydrographic and water resource monitoring functions to understand the behaviour of water catchments during the seasons and their reaction to land use activities. A strong focus of the position will be to lead the small team of hydrographers within the Pilbara Region to undertake the hydrographic program. Work involves activities such as measuring river flow, rainfall, groundwater levels; collecting environmental water samples; analysing data and reporting information. Responsibilities include team planning and management, completing relevant hydrographic monitoring and reporting; complying with safe work practices; designing, constructing, operating and maintaining water monitoring sites; processing and validating data; preparing reports and disseminating information; working in small teams.</p>

<p>• Experience and knowledge, or the ability to acquire experience and knowledge, of the techniques, methods and procedures used in the collection of surface water, groundwater and water quality information, and the storage, analysis and presentation of the information.</p>
<p>• Ability to prioritise, plan and undertake water monitoring activities.</p>
<p>• Experience and knowledge, or the ability to acquire experience and knowledge, of natural resource management and planning principles including the water monitoring components of water resource plans and resource operations plans.</p>
<p>• Possess a rudimentary knowledge of hydrologic analyses and to provide advice and recommendations for effective water resource management including assessment of flow conditions for water extraction.</p>
<p>• Ability to actively contribute as a member of a team, and to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with staff, managers, clients and community based groups</p>
<p>• The applicant will require a University Degree in Science, Applied Science, Engineering (Technology) or Natural Resource Management.</p>
<p>• C class manual driver’s licence is essential.</p>

<p><b><span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri">Pursue your Passion for Hydrology based in Central Otago</span></span></b></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri"> Your primary focus will be on environmental monitoring for water quantity and quality.  This will include:</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">·</span>         <span style="font-family: Calibri"><span style="font-size: medium">maintaining the network of recorders</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">·</span>         <span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri"> flow gauging</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">·</span>         <span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri"> water sampling</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">·</span>         <span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri"> helping with fish habitat surveys</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium">·</span>         <span style="font-family: Calibri"><span style="font-size: medium">contributing to specific science projects</span></span></p>

<p><span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri">Initial training will be in Dunedin. You will then relocate to Central Otago as the position is based in Cromwell.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: medium"><span style="font-family: Calibri">You will need sound on-the-job experience in hydrology and preferably hold a tertiary degree in a relevant science or engineering field.</span></span></p>
