Education, Training and Association Grants.

The Australian Hydrographers’ Association encourages members to undertake studies in appropriate courses and to attend and present papers at the Association’s Bi-Annual Hydrographic conference, held around Australia at regular intervals

 

The Committee of the Association considers applications to assist with studies, projects and conference travel grants to participate in work that furthers the objectives of the Association and benefits the learning and understanding of hydrographic practitioners through the preparation, publishing and presentation of technical and scientific papers related to the fields of hydrography and field hydrology.

Development of NWP07 Training Units, 2008

 

Comment and submissions are invited from the hydrographic profession on the development of the proposed NWP07 for Hydrography, under the proposed competency based framework

 

A steering Committee made up of AHA representatives and industry/agency representatives is working with Government Skills Australia and OTEN (NSW TAFE) do develop appropriate units.

Educational Grant, 2008

 PURPOSE

The purpose of the Educational Grant is to:

  • promote the principle objective of the Association to further the development of the science of hydrography/field hydrology and its application to the under-standing monitoring and management of Australia’s water resources, and
  • assist students undertaking the Hydrography Certificate IV (accredited under the Australian Qualifications Framework to undertake the final year Project (Subject 8004AA) as required in the course.

THE GRANT

The Grant will be of a value of up to $1000 to assist the student undertaking studies in the Hydrography Certificate IV to purchase material/equipment and services necessary to undertake the Project in the final year of the course.

CONDITIONS

  • The recipient will supply an initial abstract paper and a final project paper for publication in the Association's Journal “Australasian Hydrographer”, and win advanced consideration for the right to present the Project paper (describing the work undertaken) at the Australian Hydrographers’ Association Conference (at a future date) upon applying for the Conference Educational Travel Grant. (See previous section)
  • The recipient will be a financial member of the Australian Hydrographers’ Association.
  • The recipient will normally be enrolled in the Hydrography Certificate IV (AQF).
  • The recipient’s project will have been approved by OTEN and/or the recipients employer as an appropriate project activity meeting the requirements of the Project (Subject 8004AA) in the Hydrography Certificate IV.
  • Applications will include the approved Project proposal, a budget detailing other sources of financial/material support (for example from the employer/supervisor).
  • Applications will be assessed by the Association's Committee who may invite advice from appropriately qualified people. The Committee may liase with the employer where necessary. More than one grant may be awarded annually, at the Committee's discretion.
  • The grant will take the form of a reimbursement to the awarded value, paid to the individual, or as a rebate to the employer that has initially covered the recipients costs incurred, after presentation of proof of purchase of items/services.
  • Items purchased with the Grant will become the property of the recipient's institution/employer or in the case of a stand alone student, the student.
  • Proof of purchase of the items/services must be supplied to the Treasurer prior to reimbursement if this grant is awarded.

APPLICATIONS

Applications may be made to the Secretary, using this form, preferably by 31 June in the year in which the Grant is required. Applications will be judged competitively and not all applicants may be successful.

  Educational Travel Grant, 2008

 PURPOSE

The Travel Grant is to:

  • promote the principle objective of the Association to further the development of the science of hydrography/field hydrology and its application to the under-standing monitoring and management of Australia’s water resources, and
  • encourage students undertaking the Hydrography Certificat IV or junior cadets/trainees within organisations to attend the Association’s Hydrographic Conference and present papers describing their work.

THE GRANT

The Grant will be of a value up to $1000 and is intended to assist junior cadets/trainees or students undertaking the Hydrography Certificate IV to attend the Australian Hydrographers’ Association Conference. Generally it would be expected that the employer would be supporting the attendance of the cadet/trainee in the first instance. This grant is designed to encourage employers to support the attendance of junior staff and trainees at the Conference.

The actual sum granted to an individual and the number of grants issued will be at the discretion of the Association’s Committee after considering the merits and numbers of applications that may occur for this grant as circumstance warrant.

CONDITIONS

  • The recipient will attend the Associations Hydrographic Conference, and present a paper or poster describing the hydrographic work in which he/she has been the principal investigator, or a principal participant.
  • The recipient will be a current financial member of the Australian Hydrographers Association.
  • The recipient will normally be enrolled in the Hydrography Certificate IV (or have completed the Certificate in the previous 2 years), or preparing to enrol in the course 
  • Applications will be assessed by the Association’s Committee who may invite advice from appropriately qualified people. The Committee may also discuss the application with the applicants employer where warranted.
  • The grant will take the form of a reimbursement to the awarded value, paid to the individual, or as a rebate to the employer that has paid the recipients attendance at the conference, after presentation of receipts.
  • In circumstances of hardship where the recipient is unable to cover all costs prior to receiving the grant (as reimbursement), the Committee may make consideration as to paying direct expense items to the value of the awarded grant value.
  • Applications are to be submitted by the end of June 2008
