ALCOA WORLD ALUMINA AUSTRALIA
A.C.N. 004 879 298
Cnr Davy &
Marmion Streets, Booragoon,
Western Australia 6154
IRC143235– Senior Research Hydrologist - Mining
Brief Description
This vacancy is open to
internal and external applicants.
Detailed Description
We
have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join
Alcoa’s Mining Group as a Senior Research Hydrologist.
Located
in the Darling Ranges less than an hour from Perth and 40
minutes from Mandurah, the Huntly bauxite mine produces 23 millions tonnes of bauxite annually, supplying the Pinjarra and Kwinana
alumina refineries. The mine is
located in the jarrah forest which is managed
for multiple land uses including water production, timber production,
conservation, recreation and mining.
Mining and mine rehabilitation
affects the hydrology of the forested catchments so it is important
that the production of high quality potable water continues during and
after mining is completed. There are relatively high levels of salt
(NaCl) stored in the soil profile of the eastern portion of the mining
lease so ensuring that mining and rehabilitation operations will not
significantly affect the salinity of the water resources is critical to
maintaining access to ore reserves.
Reporting to the
Mining Environmental Research Manager, in this role you will:
·
Provide high quality advice and
professional research services in the area of hydrology and mine water
management.
·
Undertake joint research programs with government, CSIRO
and academic scientists to rigorously assess the effects of mining and
maximise the availability of ore to the Company.
·
Plan, implement and/or supervise complex medium- to large-scale
research projects, both internally and with external collaborating
organisations.
·
Convey research outcomes to a diverse audience, including
government regulators.
·
Lead and develop the research team capabilities.
Job Requirements
This
position is best suited to an experienced Tertiary qualified Research
Hydrologist. However, graduates with 4-5 years relevant experience will
be considered. To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated
research experience in the areas of hydrology and mine water
management. You will have
demonstrated ability to work with a variety of research organisations.
Experience with complex, medium to large research projects will
be highly regarded.
Further
information regarding Alcoa Environment Research activities can be
found via Web address www.alcoa.com/australia/en/info_page/mining_homepage.asp. Also reference to the scientific journal
