Measuring Australia's Water Resources

The Australian Hydrographers Association was established in 1979 to encourage the development of all aspects of Hydrometric data collection, processing, analysis and presentation as well as encouraging appropriate educational and technical standards within the profession.

It is a not-for-profit Association, being incorporated in New South Wales. Activities are organised and co-ordinated by members on a voluntary basis.

The Association supports state based activities and workshops, our major activity being the National Australian Hydrographers’ Association Conference, generally held over 3-4 days on a biennial basis. The Conference is shared around the states (and on occasions New Zealand) to reflect the national/international  nature of our membership.

The ‘Australasian Hydrographer’ is the quarterly Journal of the Association that enables sharing of news and information from our profession with other members.

  The Committee

The Committee is made up of practitioners in the field of hydrography and field hydrology from all states and territories of Australia as well as industry representatives.

Committee members are volunteers nominated and elected from within the membership of the Association on a triennial basis.

  Beyond the horizon

The AHA looks to spread its influence within the Asia - Pacific region and already boasts active members from New Zealand, Singapore,  U.S.A. and Europe.

  Who can Join?

Any one interested in Australia's and indeed, the world's water resources. Go to the Download page and download an application form.

To assist with membership management, members are asked to renew membership in line with financial year cycles commencing at July 1 of each year. New members wishing to become members at periods outside the financial year membership cycle are asked to contact the Secretary, secretary(at)aha(dot)net(dot)au for membership payment options.

  The Future!

The association is a product of its membership and this web site is dedicated to providing a forum for the interchange of knowledge and ideas.

The Association is currently involved in the continued development and review of training and accreditation of the profession and encourages cadets and trainees within organisations to undertake studies in hydrography and field hydrology.
